A Beehive in your garden
A beehive in your garden will help the honey bees because of the variety of plants that are available in an
urban environment. It can also be a great help for young children because the honey bee is covered in Key
Stage 1 and 2 at school.
My beehives have windows in the back to allow a bee friendly method of caring for the bees. Later this year I
hope to have resources available for parents, teachers and children.
Do your bit for the environment in an interesting and different way. Having a colony of bees in the garden
certainly makes you more aware of the effects of the weather and mans activities on insect life and of the
range of insects in your particular area.
Every beehive will provide some FREE honey for the householder. The traditional rent is 2 half pound jars
per hive per year. There will also be the opportunity to buy more healthy natural raw honey and wax based
products from a source which is known to you.
If you are interested ask for more information using this link tellmemore@newgenbees.co.uk
I will always do a Risk Assessment before placing any hives and cannot guarantee that your garden will be
suitable or that we will get honey every year. But if you have children you will need a larger garden with a
fairly secluded place where a hive can be situated safely. The best places are south or south east facing but sheltered without being
under trees. A hedge or high fence between you and your neighbours is good because it make the bees fly in and out above head
height.
You and your family can watch the bees progress through the windows in the specially constructed hive and will be fascinated by
their activities, particlarly during the busy season from March to October.
If, after having a hive for a while, you want to buy a hive or hives that will be possible. Training to look after it or them will also be
possible for either a small monthly fee or as part of a package.
Eventually Webshop pages will be added to this site to allow you or your friends and relatives to buy honey and wax based products.
There are several
criteria that need to be
met to enable the bees
to be happy in your
garden.
